漆を知る
漆器（しっき）は木や紙や布に漆を塗り重ねて作られます。歴史は陶磁器よりも古く、約9000年前（縄文時代）に現在の日本で始まっているとされています。
ゆえに、日本古来の文化として、漆を皆様に知っていただきたいと思います。
Discovering Urushi (Japanese Lacquerware)
Urushiware (漆器, shikki) is made by layering lacquer onto materials such as wood, paper, or fabric. Its history dates back further than ceramics, believed to have originated in Japan around 9,000 years ago, during the Jomon period. As part of Japan’s ancient cultural heritage, I hope to share the beauty and tradition of urush.
名雪園代さんの作品は、毎日使いたくなるデザインです。それは他にはない唯一無二の作品となっています。漆の使い心地と相まって、手放せないアイテムとなっています。
漆の口当たりは、陶器磁器、プラスチック、ガラス、ステンレスとは違い、際立って良いことです。唇の粘膜と温度差がなく、優しい丸みと質感、使い始めたら漆の口当たりの良さにびっくりします。
また、漆は断熱性が高く熱が伝わりにくいので、熱湯が入っても手で持つことができます。
そして、軽くて割れにくい。
歳を重ねていく私たちには、軽くて使いやすい器はぴったりです。
The works of Sonoyo Nayuki are designed to be pieces you’ll want to use daily. Each item is a one-of-a-kind creation. Combined with the pleasant tactile experience of urushi, these pieces become indispensable everyday essentials.
Unlike ceramics, plastic, glass, or stainless steel, lacquerware offers a unique feel. The material provides a gentle, smooth texture, with no abrupt temperature difference when touching the lips. Once you start using lacquerware, you’ll be amazed by its comfortable sensation. Additionally, urushi has excellent thermal insulation, making it possible to hold a vessel containing boiling water without burning your hands. It is also lightweight and resistant to breakage－qualities that make it ideal for us as we mature, offering both ease and practicality.

Urushi is a tree sap, and it cannot take form on its own. However, with the help of materials like wood, clay, or hemp, it can express a wide variety of shapes. Harnessing this unique characteristic, Nayuki continues to create art pieces that embody the depth and texture only lacquer can offer, impossible to replicate with other paints. Take this opportunity to experience the profound beauty of urushi.
