Shall we dance ?
ピーピー、ブーブー、ケラケラ、ブツブツ、
独り言のような念仏のような声が聞こえてきます。聞こえる気がします。夏の暑さ真っ盛り金沢も40度越えの猛暑のある日、北井真衣さんの工房におじゃましました。これは暑さのせいなのか、それとも本当に彼ら彼女の声なのか・・・
Can you hear the murmur of voices?
It was one of the hottest days of this summer when I visited Mai (pronounced M-Aye, as in Aye/Nay) Kitai’s studio. The temperature reached over 40 degrees Celsius, 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I thought I heard magic words coming from the pieces that she had created. Was I hearing stuff because of the heat? Have I gone mad? Or was it really the soliloquy of her works?
九谷焼・北井真衣さんの作品は、人間のようなそれぞれの個性を持っています。それは北井さんが持つ個性とは違うように感じます。童話の中でピノキオが作り手のおじいさんの個性や作った思いとは違ったように。作家の思いのままに個性を作り上げられるのではなく、必然的に作り上げたはずの作品の個性が偶発的にも違う個性を持つ。ゆえに想像を超えた作品が出来上がる。これが今の北井真衣さんの力ではないでしょうか。
Each piece that Mai Kitai creates seems to have personality. Everyone is different, just like we are. It is not a portrayal of the artist herself. Much like how Mister Geppetto had no control over the attitude and personality of Pinocchio when he was created, Mai’s works all have a unique personality that was unplanned at the time of conception. The inevitable meets the unintended, creating works that surpass our imagination. That is the power Mai possesses.
北井真衣さんの作品はお好きな方も苦手な方もいらっしゃることでしょう。それでいいのです。北井真衣さんは、感性を躊躇なく爆発させ、世の中を皮肉り、赤黒い情熱とパステルカラーのような柔らかな光を併せ持つ混沌とした頭のなかで悶着を繰り返し、作品を生み出していく。
そうして作り上げられた作品を、まずは覗くことから始めてみてください。
北井ワールドの天国がそこにはあります。
You may or may not like Mai Kitai’s works, and that’s natural. She does not hesitate to let her emotions explode, to mock the world we live in, and to constantly go over the battle in her head in order to give birth to a new product. And in her head, there live two entities: one is passion in red and black and the other, pastel soft light.
今の北井真衣さんの作品には、パステルカラーがよく似合います。
私はそう感じます。
